The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT France) is organising:

The International Conference on Islamic Finance

18 March 2010

PROSPECTS FOR RESEARCH AND TRAINING

IN ISLAMIC ECONOMICS AND FINANCE

In collaboration with

Al Baraka Bank

Islamic Research and Training Institute IRTI (Islamic Development Bank)

General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions CIBAFI

Your Shari’ah Board CIFIE will be there and will speak on the role of Shari’ah Boards, their constraints and their contribution to research and training in the Islamic finance sector.

The Islamic finance market is developing in Europe. Alongside the legal and institutional preparations, IIIT France intends to make its contribution in the intellectual and academic field through the creation of a university diploma, a research group and the organisation of conferences and symposia. It is in this context that IIIT France is offering an international conference on the theme of research and training in Islamic economics and finance.

Eminent economists will come to share the experience of research and training in countries where the Islamic finance market has been developing for several years. Mr Umer Chapra, Monzer Kahf, Mr Anas Zarka, Samer Kantakji and Mehmet Asutay will present their views and assessments of the recent experience in Islamic finance. These analyses will attempt to outline the prospects for the new markets.

Major international institutions such as Al Baraka Banking Group, represented by its subsidiaries in Algeria and Tunisia, the Islamic Development Bank, represented by the IRTI, and CIBAFI are partners of this event.

European players in Islamic finance, in particular French and Belgian ones (Ecole de management de Strasbourg, Al Maalya, IFAAS, IFFI, COFFIS, Acerfi, CIFIE, Averoes, Aidimm, Finequity, Isla-Ivest, IFESI), are taking part in this international conference. All are directly concerned by the theme of research and training and will come to share their views and actions in this field.

Since 2009, the IIIT, a private international institution specialising in the various fields of Islamic thought, research and teaching, has created a research group in Islamic economics and finance in Europe (GREFIE) and offers a diploma in Islamic economics and finance (DEFI). The organisation of this conference, which is part of the institute’s activities, is an opportunity to bring together research economists and finance practitioners to gain a better grasp of our scientific heritage, and so to frame the issues of research and training with a view to speeding up the steps towards the creation of a French Islamic finance market.
